A jeweler in Ratnapura, Sri Lanka, said the stone was found by laborers as they were digging a well in their backyard.

Experts say the light blue stone will cost about 100 million (PKR 16.16 billion) in the international market.

This precious stone weighs 510 kg or two and a half carats and is called 'Serendipity Sapphire'.
"The man who was digging told us that we may have found some rare stones. We later found out that it was a huge sapphire," said Johri Gamage, from whose home the sapphire was discovered.

He did not give his full name or location for security reasons.

The atomic plant, whose third generation is involved in the stone trade, alerted authorities shortly after the gemstone was found, but it took more than a year to clear the soil and other debris. Because only then could it be analyzed.

Sri Lanka is one of the largest exporters of sapphires and other precious stones.

Last year, Sri Lanka earned about کروڑ 500 million from the export of precious stones, diamonds and jewelery.

Ratnapura is known as the gem capital of Sri Lanka and in Sinhala it means the city of jewels.

Keep in mind that many rare gems have been discovered in this city in the past.
