Leading Pakistani actress Mahwesh Hayat has called for action against the growing incidence of sexual violence and discrimination against women in Pakistan.

Mahwesh Hayat, like other showbiz personalities, called on the government to take action in stories and tweets shared on Instagram.
"The time for hashtags and slogans is over, we demand to know what the government is going to do to change the system," she wrote.
He further wrote that sexual and gender based violence and other forms of discrimination in the society cannot be eradicated without changing the society.
"It is time for women to make their statements. We will not be targeted in silence. We will not accept anyone's explanation of our lives but only our own," he added.
"Men also have an important role to play in sending the message that real men do not harm or abuse their peers," he added.
Mahwesh Hayat pointed out that the country has laws on gender-based violence, and that enforcement of these laws needs to be tightened in a way that makes them less painful for victims.
Actress Mahwesh Hayat said that every person has the basic right to live a safe and free life free from violence and abuse.
"No one should live in fear, it is not acceptable and it cannot be ignored," he added.
Mahwesh Hayat added that action needs to be taken before another victim becomes a hashtag.
"Men also play an important role in sending the message that real men do not harm or abuse their peers.
